Breath of Life Monk

Coursing through their veins is pure life energy, managed by steady breathing and advanced, somewhat unorthodox combat techniques, breath of life monks manage their breath and powers from turn to turn, and use them to do immensely powerful things.

The breath of life monk is an archetype of the monk class.

Limit Break (Su)

At 1st level, the breath of life monk receives the Limit Break (Thunder Cross Split Attack).

Thunder Cross Split Attack (Su): As a full round action, the breath of life monk can make a charge against one target he can see. This charge can only have one attack on it regardless of other abilities such as pounce. The attack is resolved against the target’s flat footed AC, and deals an additional 1d6 of damage, half holy half lightning, plus an additional 1d6 per four monk levels after 1st.

This ability replaces the Limit Break (Force Blast).

Breath of Life (Su)

Managing his breath even during the throes of combat, a breath of life monk can channel his energy from his life, into his fists and other equipment.

A breath of life monk gains a breath of life pool, which is empty until generated in combat. The maximum is equal to the breath of life monk’s Constitution modifier. The breath of life monk uses this pool of breath of life to fuel his other abilities. This pool empties when combat ends unless explicitly used for out of combat purposes, such as Life Magnetism Overdrive’s Cure use.

The breath of life monk can gain one point of breath of life as a move action. At 7th level, he may do so as a swift action.

At any time the breath of life monk lands an attack against any form of undead, he may expend one point of breath of life to add 1d6 points of holy damage to his damage. This is not multiplied on a critical.

This ability replaces blitz techniques.

Breathing Techniques (Su)

At 1st level and every two monk levels afterwards, the breath of life monk may select one of the following techniques to learn. Each technique has a breath of life cost, and can be used as many times as the breath of life monk can afford the cost.

Forced Life Breathing (Su): At a cost of 1 breath of life point, the breath of life monk can strike an unconscious target’s gut with his pinky raised, allowing him to hit the diaphragm. This allows the breath of life monk to temporarily force the target to breathe Life energy. This technique stabilizes any dying creature it hits, as well as providing Fast Healing 1 for a number of rounds equal to half the breath of life monk’s level plus his Wisdom modifier. This does nothing to creatures that are currently conscious.

Life Magnetism Overdrive (Su): At a cost of 2 breath of life points, the breath of life monk can use his life energy to restore life to plants. This allows him to cast Cure on plants, using his monk level as his caster level. Alternatively, if the monk carries a bag of leaves with him, he may use this to cast Choco Feather on himself, using his monk level as his caster level. This works by creating a glider from the now-revived leaves.

Life Wave Kick (Su): At a cost of 3 breath of life points, the breath of life monk can use his life energy to propel himself upwards, striking with surprising force. This allows the breath of life monk to make one attack on any creature up to 15 feet above him, as a standard action.

Live Wave Overdrive (Su): At a cost of 3 breath of life points, the breath of life monk channels his life energy into an object or undead, tearing it apart from the inside. He may make one attack at full base attack bonus, and ignore an amount of Hardness and/or DR equal to his monk level. This attack deals holy damage and is doubled on undead creatures.

Ripple Cutter (Su): At a cost of 1 breath of life point, the breath of life monk channels his life energy into wine, which is incredibly conductive, and use it as a projectile. He may make one ranged touch attack as a standard action, or as many attacks as he can from base attack bonus and other effects such as haste, at a range of 30 feet, that deals 1d6 + his Wisdom modifier points of holy damage.

Scarlet Overdrive (Su): At a cost of 2 breath of life points, the breath of life monk channels his life energy into his fist, striking it off the floor or another hard object to ignite it. He may make, as a full action, his normal number of attacks for base attack bonus and including effects like haste, as if his unarmed strikes did Fire damage instead of bludgeoning. This can also be used if the breath of life monk uses a standard action to attack.

Sunlight Yellow Overdrive (Su): At a cost of 3 breath of life points, the ultimate breath of life technique, designed to obliterate undead. The breath of life monk performs a flurry of blows on one undead target, converting all of his unarmed strike damage to holy, adding 1d6 extra holy damage to each hit as well as only counting damage reduction once for the entire flurry. This technique only functions on the undead. Prerequisite: The breath of life monk must be at least 6th level to learn this technique.

Tornado Overdrive (Su): At a cost of 2 breath of life points, the breath of life monk forces his life energy down into his feet, leaping into the air and striking a foe with a twisting divekick. The breath of life monk makes a charge as a standard action and adds his Wisdom modifier to the one attack he deals. This does not provoke from targets along the charge route.

Turquoise Blue Overdrive (Su): At a cost of 2 breath of life points, the breath of life monk channels his life energy into his fist, before coating it in water. He may make, as a full action, his normal number of attacks for base attack bonus and including effects like haste, as if his unarmed strikes did Water damage instead of bludgeoning. This can also be used if the breath of life monk uses a standard action to attack.

Zoom Punch (Su): At a cost of 1 breath of life point, the breath of life monk can channel his life energy into his limb, and gain immense reach by using that energy to prevent the harm caused by dislocating every joint in that limb. He can, as a standard action, make one attack as though it had reach. This cannot be used to gain reach on an attack of opportunity.

These abilities replace combo finishers.

Breath of Life Mastery (Su)

In addition to the normal Ki powers available to the monk, he may also choose from the following:

Leaping Life Breath (Su): At the cost of one ki point and one breath of life point, the breath of life monk may leap from a seated or prone position, allowing them to stand without costing movement or provoking attacks of opportunity. Prerequisite: The breath of life monk must be at least 4th level to learn this ki power.

Life Breath Shroud (Su): As long as the breath of life monk has one ki point and one breath of life point, he is shrouded in crackling life energy. Any creature weak to holy energy, who connects with an unarmed srtike or natural attack, takes 1d6 points of holy damage after the attack is resolved. Prerequisite: The breath of life monk must be at least 6th level to learn this ki power.

Life Wave Detector (Su): At the cost of one ki point and one breath of life point, the breath of life monk can release a wave of life energy, detecting any living and undead creatures within 60 feet, for one round. This tells him their exact location when the ability is used. Prerequisite: The breath of life monk must be at least 6th level to learn this ki power.

These abilities otherwise function as ki powers.
