The alchemists of Thavnair’s House Daemir have created many weird and wonderful creations over the centuries, from synthetic voidsent to self aware swords, however recent times have caused them to turn their attention to defensive abilities, the culmination of which is the Warding Scale, a small talisman that can defend the wearer from all manner of harm.

The daemir alchemist is an archetype of the chemist class, available only to matanga chemists.

Archetype Main Ability Scores:
The daemir alchemist mainly focuses on STR/DEX for martial combat and INT for their class features.

Limit Break (Su)

At 1st level, the daemir alchemist receives the Limit Break (Perfect Ward).

Perfect Ward (Su): This Limit Break allows the daemir alchemist to enhance the defensive powers of his Scales to new heights. For the duration of 1 round + 1 round per four chemist levels after 1st, the daemir alchemist augments all Warding Scales he has active within 120 feet to provide every property he is capable of applying to a scale at once, using his number of Craft (Alchemy) ranks for that Scale. This limit break requires only a swift action.

This ability replaces the Limit Break (Perfect Bomb).

Warding Scale (Su)

At 1st level, the daemir alchemist is able to create powerful talismans known as Warding Scales. He may create and maintain a number of these Scales equal to his Intelligence modifier. To maintain a Scale, he must work on it for at least an hour per day. He may maintain any number at once and this may be done during a rest. Warding Scales are a Slot-less Wonderous Item that can be used to protect against a wide variety of effects, although a creature only benefits from the Scale with the daemir alchemist’s number of Craft (Alchemy) ranks (see below). Each Scale may only have one of the following properties, although by touching the scale as a full-round action, he may touch a Warding Scale (which can be done with his trunk instead of a hand) and perform a Craft (Alchemy) check (DC 20) and change it. He may Take 10 on this check (but not Take 20)

1st Level

  • Buoyancy Aide: The daemir alchemist reduces all fall damage by an amount equal to his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.
  • Physical Defense: The daemir alchemist gains DR/Magic equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks, rounded down (minimum 1). At 10 ranks, this becomes DR/Adamantine. At 20 ranks, this becomes DR/Epic.
  • Rejuvenation Field: The daemir alchemist gains Fast Healing equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks, rounded down (minimum 1) until 50% health.
  • Universal Antivenom: The daemir alchemist adds his Craft (Alchemy) ranks to any save made against poisons or the poisoned status effect.

5th Level

  • Earth Resistance: The daemir alchemist gains Earth Resistance equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.
  • Fire Resistance: The daemir alchemist gains Fire Resistance equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.
  • Ice Resistance: The daemir alchemist gains Ice Resistance equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.
  • Lightning Resistance: The daemir alchemist gains Lightning Resistance equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.
  • Water Resistance: The daemir alchemist gains Water Resistance equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.
  • Wind Resistance: The daemir alchemist gains Wind Resistance equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.

10th Level

  • Holy Resistance: The daemir alchemist gains Holy Resistance equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.
  • Shadow Resistance: The daemir alchemist gains Shadow Resistance equal to half his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.
  • Tempering Barrier: The daemir alchemist may replace his Will save against a Mind-Altering effect with his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.

15th level

  • Energy Shield: The daemir alchemist gains Spell Resistance equal to 1 ½ times his Craft (Alchemy) ranks.

This ability replaces bomb, throw anything, defensive bombing, distracting bombs, and reliable bombs.

Scale Discoveries

Starting at 2nd level, the daemir alchemist loses access to all discoveries that involve bombs but gains access to the following discoveries unique to this archetype. Discoveries that are marked with an asterisk (*) do not stack. Only one such discovery can be applied to the Warding Scales. The DC of any saving throw called for by a discovery is equal to 10 + half of the chemist’s level + his Intelligence modifier.

Dual-layered Barrier (Su): The Physical Defense property now provides DR equal to his Craft (Alchemy) ranks, instead of half. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 8th level before selecting this discovery.

Elemental Discharge (Su): When the daemir alchemist or a creature he can see within 60 feet makes an attack while holding a Warding Scale with an effect that provides Resistance against a specific element, the daemir alchemist may deal damage equal to his Intelligence modifier to the target as a swift action of that element.

Empowered Scales (Su): Effects that give half the daemir alchemist’s Craft (Alchemy) ranks now provide the full rank amount. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 12th level before selecting this discovery.

Granite Outburst* (Su): When the daemir alchemist hits an enemy while holding a Warding Scale with the Earth Resistance effect, the target must make a Fortitude save or suffer the Weighted status effect for 1 minute. The subject may attempt to make this save again as a standard action. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 8th level before selecting this discovery.

Hurricane Outburst* (Su): When the daemir alchemist hits an enemy while holding a Warding Scale with the Wind Resistance effect, the target must make a Fortitude save or suffer the Squall status effect for 1 minute. The subject may attempt to make this save again as a standard action. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 8th level before selecting this discovery.

Improved Rapid Scale (Ex): The daemir alchemist may now change the ability of a Warding Scale as a move action. Prerequisites: A daemir alchemist must have the Rapid Scale discovery and be at least 12th level before selecting this discovery.

Inferno Outburst* (Su): When the daemir alchemist hits an enemy while holding a Warding Scale with the Fire Resistance effect, the target must make a Fortitude save or suffer the Burning status effect as a spell of level equal to his Intelligence modifier for 1 minute. The subject may attempt to make this save again as a standard action. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 8th level before selecting this discovery.

Midnight Outburst* (Su): When the daemir alchemist hits an enemy while holding a Warding Scale with the Shadow Resistance effect, the target must make a Fortitude save or suffer the Dimmed status effect for 1 minute. The subject may attempt to make this save again as a standard action. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 10th level before selecting this discovery.

Rapid Scale (Ex): The daemir alchemist becomes adept at manipulating the power of a Warding Scale to suit his needs, allowing him to change the ability of a Warding Scale as a standard action.

Rimed Outburst* (Su): When the daemir alchemist hits an enemy while holding a Warding Scale with the Ice Resistance effect, the target must make a Fortitude save or suffer the Frozen status effect as a spell of level equal to his Intelligence modifier for 1 minute. The subject may attempt to make this save again as a standard action. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 8th level before selecting this discovery.

Storm Outburst* (Su): When the daemir alchemist hits an enemy while holding a Warding Scale with the Lightning Resistance effect, the target must make a Fortitude save or suffer the Static status effect as a spell of level equal to his Intelligence modifier for 1 minute. The subject may attempt to make this save again as a standard action. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 8th level before selecting this discovery.

Tidal Outburst* (Su): When the daemir alchemist hits an enemy while holding a Warding Scale with the Water Resistance effect, the target must make a Fortitude save or suffer the Drenched status effect as a spell of level equal to his Intelligence modifier for 1 minute. The subject may attempt to make this save again as a standard action. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 8th level before selecting this discovery.

Vibrant Outburst* (Su): When the daemir alchemist hits an enemy while holding a Warding Scale with the Light Resistance effect, the target must make a Fortitude save or suffer the Illuminated status effect as a spell of level equal to his Intelligence modifier for 1 minute. The subject may attempt to make this save again as a standard action. Prerequisite: A daemir alchemist must be at least 10th level before selecting this discovery.

These abilities may replace discoveries.
