Table: Gunner Archetypes

AntiquarianPreferring firearms of the past, and making use of their unique quirks, antiquarians maintain, master and use firearms of the flintlock variety. They provide more utility in return for less… reliable firearms.
BuccaneerFreebooters who cling to the convoluted codes that rule independent ships, the buccaneer is a gunner of the high seas. Their exploits are fueled by the thrill of danger and often by the temporary courage provided by grog. Available only to hume gunners.
BushwackerThe bushwhacker specializes in the art of the ambush. For him, gunplay works best when it comes from a concealed position and is directed against a target that falls with the very first volley and is dead before the smoke clears. Available only to kobold gunners.
CannoneerCannoneers specialize in the very largest—cannons, bombards, and firedrakes. A few cannoneers make a living renting out their services and the use of their personal collection of siege weaponry to causes in which they believe or to the highest bidder.
CommandoThe oft-overlooked commandos make victory possible; the first to the front lines, the first into enemy territory – and the first to get shot at. If you’re going to survive long in the infantry, you better pick up a trick or two.
DesperadoThe ringing cracks of a desperado’s dual-wielded pistols can often sound like the worst storm of the year coming in. For small towns, overrun by bandits and the like, that’s never too far from the truth.
Experimental GunsmithThe experimental gunsmith is obsessed with creating the ultimate firearm, and is willing to take risks to work the kinks out of her design. Available only to moogle gunners.
FlintlockWhile most gunners have favorite firearms, there are those rare ones who choose to specialize in one-handed firearms exclusively. These gunners are called flintlocks. While they lack the flexibility of being able to pick up any kind of firearm and use it with reasonable proficiency, they are crackerjack shots with pistols and similar firearms. Their skill and aim with these firearms at close range is second to none, and they rarely misfire with these weapons.
Gulch GunnerBurmecian warfare often occurs in cramped, claustrophobic spaces such as the burmecian’s own underground warrens and heavily trapped gulch fortresses, or the subterranean tunnels of goblins and similar foes. Since these battlegrounds often have tight corners and few areas with long lines of sight, those burmecian who seek to master the use of firearms almost inevitably become experts in close-quarters combat. These gulch gunners often specialize in proficiency with a single pistol (easily handled in tight spaces) and wander from warren to warren selling their tunnel-shooting skills to the highest bidder. Available only to burmecian gunners.
MachinistThe war with Dravania rages on, brutal and unrelenting. With no end in sight, the Holy See grows desperate. As her dragoons lay down their lives in defense of their home, Ishgard turns to technology to protect her sons and daughters. Great cannons and ballistae now line the city walls, plucking dragons from the sky. Following the example of Cid Garlond, who has demonstrated the potency of magitek, the Skysteel Manufactory works tirelessly on the development of advanced armaments. As new and devastating weapons are brought to the fray, a new class of champion arises to wield them―the machinist.
RookFor those on the front lines of warfare, they have to choose one of two options; do they skirt and dodge and dive, outsmarting their foes with guile and agility? Or do they stand against the tide of foes, marching ever closer to them like an oncoming storm, bringing death and booming thunder in their wake? Rooks are gunners who choose the second path. To stand in the way of one, is to stand against the inevitable.
