Lyrical MageThe lyrical mage understands better than most how the natural harmonics of the universe pervade all things. Music might be its most pleasing form, but magical energy has harmonics of its own. The lyrical mage has learned to make her magic and her music resonate into harmonic chords that enhance the effects of both.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the lyrical mage prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

Lyrical mages are proficient with all power rods and power staves but no armor or shields.

MP per day / Songs Known

At each level, a lyrical mage gains MP per day and songs known as if she had also gained a level in a song-performing class to which she belonged before adding the prestige class level and an increased effective level of song-performing. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of this class would have gained.

Limit Break (Su)

At 1st level, the lyrical mage receives the Limit Break (Song and Spell).

Song and Spell (Su): This Limit Break allows the lyrical mage to blend magic and music seamlessly. For a duration of 1 round + 1 round per two lyrical mage levels after 1st, the lyrical mage can perform a song and cast a spell with a standard action. The song and spell must be standard actions to perform/cast. This limit break requires only a swift action.

Bardic Performance (Ex/Su)

At 1st level, the lyrical mage gains two extra rounds of her bardic performance ability per lyrical mage level. She can use bardic performance from this class to create any effect she knows as a bard.

Lyrical Spellcasting (Su)

The lyrical mage’s knowledge of magic grants her the ability to cast more in addition to performing songs. At 1st level, she gains two black mage 1st-level and 2nd-level spells.

At 4th level, she gains two black mage 3rd-level and 4th-level spells.

At 7th level, she gains two black mage 5th-level spells.

At 10th level, she gains two black mage 6th-level spells.

All spells must be used with whatever the lyrical mage uses for her bard songs to cast these spells and uses her Charisma modifier for spell effects instead of Intelligence. However, she cannot gain additional spells by scrolls or being taught.

Captivating Melodies (Su)

At 3rd level, the lyrical mage can, as a swift action before casting an enfeebling spell, attempt a Perform check (DC 15 + double the spell’s level). If she succeeds, she can sacrifice two rounds of bardic performance to increase the save DC of that spell by 2. If the Perform check fails, she still loses two rounds of bardic performance but gains no benefit. She can apply Captivating Melody only to spells cast by this prestige class.

Spell Secret

Thanks to the lyrical mage’s facility for blending music and magic, she gains additional spells known as she gains levels. These spells must be drawn from the black mage list and are thereafter treated as part of her spell list.

At 2nd level, she gains one additional 1st- and one 2nd-level spell known.

At 6th level, she gains one additional 3rd- and one 4th-level spell known.

At 8th level, she gains one additional 5th-level spell known.

As before, she cannot gain additional spells by scrolls or being taught.

Sonic Might (Su)

Beginning at 5th level, the lyrical mage can expend two rounds of bardic performance to add 1d6 points of non-elemental damage per spell level to any spell that deals damage.

Metamagic Performance (Ex)

At 9th level, a lyrical mage can apply metasong or metamagic feats to any song or spell she performs or casts. In addition, she gains 1 metamagic or metasong feat as a bonus feat, ignoring prerequisites.
